Interview with Brooke Bornick - CAMentrepreneurs Founder and Leader : Texas
Richard: Please introduce yourself
Brooke
I’m a lawyer turned entrepreneur based in Houston, Texas. Since graduating in 2018 with my EMBA from CJBS, I’ve worked in private equity, legal tech and co-founded two companies.
My linkedin can be found here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/brookebornick/
Richard: Please tell us about your businesses. What inspired you to start them, and what problems they solved
Brooke: Lodgeur is a flex living company in Houston. We make it possible to rent an apartment as easily as you rent a hotel room. Furnished rentals are rare in the US but demand is surging. It’s a higher-value use case than the traditional apartment model here (empty apartments on a 12-month lease), so we help the property owner boost their profitability and property value. My husband Sebastien Long was inspired to start the company after a decade of living in corporate housing around the world, and we’ve had a few pivots along the way. The key change was realizing that the building owner was our primary customer.
Cribix is creating some incredible tools for the creator economy. We are still in development after a few pivots, but I’m excited about the progress we are making towards web3.
Richard:: Please describe the role you have in CAMentrepreneurs, and why you decided to get involved.
:
Brooke: We started the Texas network to try to meet more entrepreneurs, investors and Cambridge alumni. We’ve held events in Austin and Dallas, but have been most active in Houston. Sebastien Long and Eugenia Fan have been my co-conspirators, and Eugenia has a gift for bringing people together.
Richard:: It can be hard to measure the impact of a CAMentrepreneurs group, what have been some examples of positive benefits for you, and for other participants?
Brooke: People keep coming back. We’ve also grown the group organically a bit by encouraging entrepreneurs to enroll at CJBS.
Richard:: What is your “sweet spot” of the sort of people and companies you like to do business with ?
Brooke: We’ve had the best luck with smaller companies led by curious entrepreneurs. There are just so many more possibilities when you mix curiosity and agility.
Richard:: Where might you/your businesses be in 5-10 years from now if things go the way you want them to ?
Brooke: Lodgeur will double each year and expand throughout the major Texas cities and expand into 3-5 more states. We will rescue people from renting moving vans or sleeping on airbeds.
Cribix will allow a creator’s tribe to follow them on any social platform and will become the gold standard in 2FA.
Richard: Anything I didn’t ask you would like to share
Brooke: I’m passionate about lifelong learning. As entrepreneurs, we’re always learning, adapting and skillstacking. If you’re interested in finding (sustainable) ways to upskill and support each other, please reach out.
Richard:: How can people get in touch with you if they want to ask more questions or want to help?
